Getting Physical

A talented, hard-working and dedicated student, Anthony Silmon could be successful anywhere. So what led him to begin his college career at Oakton?

I decided to come to Oakton for many reasons — proximity to home, affordable cost and the opportunity to play basketball. Plus, since I didn’t know what career I wanted to pursue, the College enabled me to explore different fields of study. I figured I could learn about different subjects—and myself—without wasting time and money.

I was right. Since attending Oakton, I have taken courses in a wide range of fields, from music and yoga to marketing and anthropology. I also have had the chance to improve my basketball skills — even though injuries have kept me from playing on the team this year. And, through my job in a division office, I have become acquainted with a number of staff, faculty and administrators. They all have been so kind, helpful and interested in my success. With their guidance, I discovered a career path that suits my skills and interests perfectly, and I can start here. I am currently enrolled in Liberal arts courses and plan on pursuing a career in physical therapy.
